OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS JR. June 14, 1982 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today named the first 10 members of the Governor's Blue Ribbon Commission for the Comprehensive Review of the Criminal Justice Corrections System. Initial members appointed are T. Louis Austin Jr. of Dallas, Chairman of the Board, Texas Utilities Company and Chairman Texas Board of Corrections; State Sen. James (Buster) Brown of Lake Jackson; State Sen. Ray Farabee of Wichita Falls; Harris County District Attorney John B. Holmes Jr. of Houston; State Rep. Bob McFarland of Arlington; Tarrant County Jud9e Mike Voncrief of Fort "orth; Nelson Puett of Austin; Midland County Sheriff Dallas smith of midland; Victor G. Strecher, dean and director Criminal Justice Center, Sam Houston State University , Huntsville; and Dr. Martha Williams, Dean, School of Social Work, The University of Texas at Austin. The Governor is expected this week to name 10 more members of the group which will conduct acomprehensive review and evaluation of the State's Criminal Justice System and develop a master plan to carry the Texas correction system into the 21st Century. He also will designate a chairman and vice chairman.
