OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. May 17, 1979 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today announced he will appoint Maurice Lee Barksdale of Forest Hill (Tarrant County) to fill the unexpired term of Ronald B. Pruitt of Houston who resigned from the board of regents of Texas Southern University. Barksdale, 40, is president of a real estate management company in Fort Worth. He is a graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington. The term to which he will be nominated extends to February 1, 1983. Governor Clements also said he will reappoint William H. Borchers of New Braunfels to the Texas Surplus Property Agency for a six-year term extending to March 19, 1985. Borchers, 55, is an attorney. The Governor announced he will nominate John E. Birdwell II of Lubbock to succeed Clint M. Walker of Tahoka for a six-year term (extending to February 1, 1985) on the board of directors of the Brazos River Authority. Birdwell, 49, is president of a feed yard. Rufus Edmonds Palm of Fort Worth will be named by the Governor to replace Roy E. Pitts of Malakoff on the board of directors of Trinity River Authority. Palm, 45, owner of a real estate investments firm, will serve a six-year term extending to March 15, 1985. Governor Clements will nominate Kenneth E. Nelson of Dallas to succeed Fred Parkey of Wichita Falls as Interstate Compact Commissioner for the Red River. Nelson, 30, president of a management consulting firm, will be named to a four-year term expiring February 1, 1983. The Governor reappointed Joseph B. Hutchison of Tyler to the Battleship Texas Commission. Hutchison was named to a six -year term extending to May 1, 1985.
