"LONE STAR SWEEP" OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To saturate the major and minor media markets in a final sweep immediately prior to the election. EXACT DAYS: • Friday, October 29 • Saturday, October 30 • Sunday, October 30 - afternoon only • Monday, November I - Vice President Bush is confirmed for rallys to be held in Dallas at noon; Houston mid-afternoon. Senator Tower and Governor Connally and as many big-name surrogates as possible will attend. DIVISION OF STATE - 4 sections with surrogates forming teams. • West - Eddie Chiles, Congressman Tom Loeffler, Governor Preston Smith • North - Walt Garrison • East - Governor John Connally • South - Charlie and Rosie Waters, Cliff Harris, John Armstrong (The above surrogates are confirmed - others are being asked at this time) Amanda "Miss Kitty" Blake has also agreed to be a surrogate. WPC will not be a member of a specific team. He will travel independently and visit each team at least once each day. STARTING POINT: There will be an Austin Kick-off Press Conference from the Capitol with all teams at 9am on October 29. The majority of the former A.G.'s and former Governors are confirmed to attend. Then, all teams will depart for their assigned sections. ORGANIZATION: The Governor's Campaign Scheduling Office will be responsible for coordiating the tours. Teams will work as many built in type events as possible that are conducive to good media coverage. Therefore, the phoners and local leadership will not have to spend a lot of time with crowd building, etc.
