OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. July 17, 1981 For immediate release: Governor Bill Clements today announced the following appointments: Robert J. Lyons of Vidor to the Veterans Affairs Commission for a term extending to December 31, 1981. Lyons, 58, is maintenance coordinator for Mbbil Chemical Company. He will fill the unexpired term of T.C. Selman of Freeport, who is deceased. Cash Birdwell of Dallas to the Advisory Council for Athletic Trainers for a six-year term extending to January 31, 1987. Birdwell, 40, is head athletic trainer at SMU Athletic Department. He will replace Dr. Louis Johnston of Dallas, whose term expired. Robert Merz of Round Rock, Austin Scott of Rockwall, Robert Vassallo of Austin, Marion Truitt of Abilene, Jane D. Pieper of San Antonio, Robert Flaherty of Austin, and Ray Vaughn of Austin to the Texas Committee on Purchases of Blind-made Products and Services for terms extending to January 31, 1983. Merz, 37, is assistant director of programs at the State Commission for the Blind. He will replace Podney (,,:-roen of Austin, who resigned. Scott, 62, is president of the Dallas County Association for the Blind and is being reappointed. Vassallo, 53, is director of special projects of the Texas Department of Mental Mealth/Mental Retardation and is being reappointed. Truitt, 46, is director of sheltered workshop program at Abilene State School and is being reappointed. Mrs. Pieper is a consultant for Pletcher Davis Company, Inc. and is being reappointed. Flaherty, 50, is director of eauipment and procurement division at the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation and is being reappointed. Vaughn, 50, is director of facilities at Texas Rehabilitation Commission and is being reappointed to the committee.
