Office of Governor William P. Clements, Jr. September 22, 1981 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today announced the appointment of David A. Dean of Dallas to be Director of the Criminal Justice Division, pursuant to S.B. 127 of the 67th Texas Legislature. S.B. 127 provides for state funding of criminal justice projects formerly funded by the federal Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. Since December 1979, Dean has served as director of the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor's Office, which administered the federal grants from the L.E.A.A. Dean, 33, will continue to serve as General Counsel to the Governor, a position he has held since Governor Clements took office. Dean also serves as a member of the Public Servant Standards of Conduct Advisory Committee; as chairman of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council; and as a member of the Special Interim Committee on the Criminal Justice System of Texas. He received a bachelor of business administration degree from Southern Methodist University in 1969 and a law degree from the University of Texas in 1973. Dean is a trustee of the Dean Memorial Learning Center in Dallas, and a member of the board of directors of Girlstown, U.S.A., in Whiteface, Texas.
