);) *PP41// TELEPHONE MESSAGE July 22, 1981 TO: Karl Rove FROM: Walter Durham RE: Conference on Minority Business Trade Fair - September 14-16, 1981 Walter Durham wanted to convey the following information to you. He will be out of town today, but will call you tomorrow morning to discuss the following: 1. He and Monica Young are drafting a proclamation for the above conference proclaiming the week of the conference as minority business week. They will be sending the draft for you to review and handle. 2. Walter thought there should be some recognition given from the Governor to the 25 business executive who will speak at the conference. He thought one of the certificates currently used in the Governor's office or a modification of one now used would be appropritate. (one certificate for each speaker) 3. On Wednesday, September 16th, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the City Auditorium and will include individuals from 100-150 large/small corporations in attendance. Walter thought of the following to participate in the ceremony: Mayor McClellan, Joe Kirven (representing the minorities: women, blacks). To represent the Mexican-American minority: what do you think of Rep. Barrientos? I suggested Rick Montoya or Eddie Aurispa. 4. He wanted you to know that the Mayor of San Antonio, Henry Cisneros will speak on Monday. 5. On Monday evening, WPC is scheduled to meet with the various executives representing large corporations at the Headliners Club. 6. Walter Durham had one concern: WPC is not scheduled to appear e ore any of the attendees or executives representing small businesses or minorities,_there will be a reception on Tuesday evening, the conference meetings on 9/14-15, and the ribbon cutting ceremony. All of these will have representatives from the small/minority businesses and a letter from the Scheduling Office‘lindicates that WPC's schedule precludes his attendance. Walter Durham is especially anxious to have WPC just appear to one of the above meetings/receptions. They are flexible and can alter the times somewhat for the Governor's ability to attend.
