• Office of the Governor MEMO S E P 1 RECD Austin, Texas 78711 Phone (512) 475-1772 TO: Hilary Doran and Jim Francis FR ;12 Bill Lauderbackel DATE: August 31, 1982 SUBJECT: Mayor's Advisory Committee John Sammons is looking for a speaker for the next meeting (around late September) of the Mayor's Advisory Committee which would benefit the Governor. I would appreciate your guidance as to the possibility of getting Steve Rhodes, Special Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs to address the Committee. According to Jim Cicconi, Rhodes is the White House liaison with cities and is young, black and very articulate. Because one of the thrusts of the Committee is New Federalism, I think the Governor could benefit by having the White House make a presentation to the Mayor's Committee. I have not talked to either Sammons or Rhodes about this idea as I need your guidance first. BL/mb avLL tA)-Ax\ cicvA teJAJ IQ Lj4AA- G;da_wct LA,e_ /4, .54AL J.
