There are a number of people in the Republican Party who may be able to provide some ggod advice on this subject simply because of their experience in building the party or in the legal profession over many years. One of the chief skills of a politician is listening: the people of whom I am thinking will not only represent different opinions in the party but also provide some good ideas on how various selection plans will affect the future of the party. I would recommend that some request for opinions on this issue be sent to this group. Perhaps an abbreviated form of the attached memo from Doug Brown would be appropriate. The people I have in mind are as follows: o Peter O'Donnell, Jr., State Republican Chairman 1962- 1969 (a critical period in the party's growth) o Thad Hutcheson, State Republican Chairman, 1957-1962; attorney in practice for more than thirty years o Any lawyers presently serving on the SREC o Chet Upham
