THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT AUSTIN, TEXAS 78712 Vice- President for Administrative Services (512) 471-4319 August 10, 1979 Mr. Thomas McBride, Chairman National Order of the Arrow Committee c/o Mr. William Downs National Order of the Arrow Executive Secretary National Council, Boy Scouts of America North Brunswick, New Jersey 08902 Dear Mr. McBride: At the request of Mr. Carl X. Forrester I am writing to confirm the interest of The University of Texas at Austin in hosting an annual conference of the Order of the Arrow on or about August 9-14, 1981. The general conditions of the offer are outlined in an August 8, 1978 letter to Mr. Forrester from Dr. Robert P. Cooke, Director of Housing. A copy of this letter is attached. As you can understand readily, and will note from the jottings on our copy of the 1978 letter, the cost of most items will be subject to negotiation as we get closer to the event. You also should note that the maximum number of beds we can offer has been reduced from 3,400 to 3,250 because of some room conver- sions which have taken place in the interim. Although we will be glad to put you in touch with the appropriate parties, we regret that we cannot serve as the contractor for the arrangement of off-campus private dormitory housing. It has been suggested that we might be able to accommodate a larger number if the .meeting were to be delayed until later in August, but the necessity of preparing the rooms for arrival of our students for the regular Fall term does not make this a feasible alternative. We appreciate your interest in bringing such a fine group of people to our campus and hope that we can work out a mutually satisfactory arrangement. Sincerely, / Ronald M.
