4.1 ›pioeff.the Governor May 7, 1980 TO: William P. Clements, Jr. FROM: David A. Dean RE: Chairmanship of International Trade & Foreign Relations Committee of NGA MEMO RECEIVED M AY 9 Austin, Texas 78711 Phone (512) 475-3021 As you know, Governor Busbee will take Governor Bowen's place as Chairman of the NGA at the August meeting in Denver. The Chairmanship of the International Trade Committee will then be vacant. With my full knowledge, Dick Rubottom has checked into the situation and has deter- minded that Busbee has not made up his mind who he will appoint to chair the International Trade Committee. Busbee's staff and Rick Huszagh have indicated to Rubottom that Busbee might be willing to designate you for this position. Dick and I agree that you would make a great Chairman and that most of the time requirements could properly be handled by staff without intruding into your limited available time. illIf you Tenant Intceac.els-Lic Zelfshsaizasrbl:helps aAnsiltoforixesetrhileat=era2rther, express a direct interest on your part in the appointment to be followed by a suggest .a call from you to Busbee. Apparently the only other Governor who has expressed an interest in this position is Governor Atiyeh of Oregon and, according to Rubottom, Busbee's staff did not appear to be favorably disposed to that idea. et, DAVID A.
