September 28, 1979 For immediate release: Governor Bill Clements today announced the appointment of Earl Lairson of Houston to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Lairson, 51, is a managing partner of Lairson, Young and Fitch, a certified public accounting firm. He will serve a six-year term to expire September 4, 1985. He is replacing W. Clyde Freeman, Jr. of Bryan, whose term expired. Governor Clements also announced the following appointments: Dr. William Thomas Arnold of Houston to the Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority for a two-year term to expire August 31, 1981. Dr. Arnold, 58, is an internist at Diagnostic Clinic of Houston. He is being reappointed to the board. Dr. James Walter Simmons of San Antonio, Robert Paul Higley of Austin, and William R. Smith of Houston to the Governor's Commission on Physical Fitness for six-year terms to expire June 13, 1985. Dr. Simmons, 44, is an orthopedic surgeon at Alamo Bone and Joint Association. Higley, 65, is assistant director of the international office at The University of Texas. Smith, 39, is vice-president of institutional sales at Rotan Mosle Inc. Dr. Simmons is being reappointed to the commission. Higley is replacing Sherman Fricks of Austin, whose term expired. Smith is replacing Carrol W. Smith of Austin, whose term expired.
