OFFICE OF WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. September 26, 1979 For immediate release: Governor Bill Clements today announced the appointment of Clifford F. Smith, Jr. of Houston to the Texas Board of Corrections. Smith, 63, is Chairman of the Board of C. F. Smith Electric Company, Inc. He will replace Mark McLaughlin of San Angelo, whose term expired. Smith will serve a six-year term to expire February 15, 1985. Governor Clements also announced the following appointments: Liborio Hinojosa of Mercedes to the Texas State Technical Institute Board of Regents for a six-year term to expire August 31, 1985. Hinojosa, 42, is President of H & H Packing, a meat packing firm. He will replace Joe J. Garza of Harlingen, whose term expired. Herbert Snow Harris, Jr. of Austin to be a member and Chairman of the Industrial Accident Board. Harris, 51, is an attorney being reappointed to the board for a six-year term to expire September 1, 1985. Rev. Joe Walts of Del Rio and T. Grady Baskin, Jr. of Tyler to new positions, representing the general public on the State Board of Morticians. Rev. Waits, 45, is pastor of the First Baptist Church of Del Rio. He will serve a four-year term to expire May 31, 1983. Baskin, 31, owns Baskin Interests rental property firm. He will serve a six-year term to expire May 31, 1985. William R. Knight of Midland to serve a six-year term, expiring June 18, 1985, on the Texas Board of Polygraph Examiners. Knight, 46, is Director of Security of Gibson Distributing Company, Inc., a retail discount center. He will replace Joe Gonzales of El Paso, whose term expired. •• Mrs. Scott Toothaker of McAllen to the Metric System Advisory Council. Mrs. Toothaker , 59, will serve a term to expire August 29, 1981. She is being reappointed to the board. # # #
