Office of William P. Clements, Jr. February 27, 1979 For immediate release: Governor Bill Clements has named Calvin W. Stephens of Dallas to the Advisory Council on Small Business Assistance. Stephens is president and chief executive officer of the Dallas Minority Business Center. He previously served as executive director of Venture Advisors, Inc,. an organization dedicated to coordinating and supporting the development of minority business in Dallas, and as assistant director, Project Concern Business Leadership Training, School of Business, Southern Methodist University. Stephens received the BBA degrec in marketing from the University of Houston and the MBA in finance and organizational behavior from Southern Methodist Univer- sity. His professional organizational affiliations include the Association of MBA Executives, Committee of 100, Inc., and Grand Order of the Knights of Pythias. He serves as a member of the board of directors and chairman, Economic Development Committee, Dallas Urban League; board of directors, Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Community Center for the Arts; board of advisors, City of Dallas Municipal Radio and Texas Association of Developing Colleges Syndicated. Other community involvements include Dallas Chanter of Commerce Leadership Dallas participant, 1975-76; chairman, City of Dallas Manpower Advisory Planning Committee's Labor Market Analysis Task Force, 1975; National Program for Disadvantaged Students, 1971-72; vice-chairman, Friends of Southwest Research Center and Museum for African-American Life and Culture, Bishop College, 1975; Mayor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Unemployment; United Dallas Citizen's Committ__; chairman, Goals Corrrnittcc, City of Dallas Minority Business Enterprise Task Force; Goals for Dallas Economy Goals Achievement Committee; second vice president and chairman, Finance Committee, Women's Center of Dallas; and the Dallas Assembly. He is a member of the Dallas Black Republican Council. Stephens has received numerous awards and citations including Outstanding Young Men of America, 1976; Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Service Award, 1975; Seagoville Correctional Institution Black Awareness Class Outstanding Service Award, 1975; Dallas Urban League Guild Recognition Award for Financial Leadership, 1976; DISD General Superintendent's Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to the Program for the Talented and Gifted, 1977; and a D Magazine selection as one of the "78 Most Interesting People to Watch in 1978 in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area." He is a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Dallas. Stephens is married to the former Sandra Williams of Crockett, Texas. # # #
