This year we have received 20 applications for juvenile projects totalling over $800,000 (see attached listing and project summaries). Our RBE sets aside only $203,837 for Category II, juvenile projects. The competition among Category I projects, however, is much less fierce, due to the fact that our Organized Crime Control Unit unexpectedly withdrew its application this year. We have received only 7 applications requesting $374,201, yet $489,146 is available for Category I projects in the CAPCO region. We therefore request that we be allowed to exceed the minimum amount specified by the legislature for juvenile projects. This will ensure that only the most effective, highest priority proposals are recommended for funding. Given the time constraints for submitting our CJD regional plan, I trust that you will consider this request as expeditiously as possible. Our advisory committee begins meeting Monday, March 26, 1990 to review and prioritize applications. Thank you for your assistance. Sincerely, Richard G. Bean Executive Director RGB:kta CAPITAL AREA PLANNING COUNCIL
