Spearman Jr. as the Clements administration's director of the Equal Employment Opportunity Office. Spearman, who most recently has been associated with the Houston law firm of Burney, Caggins & Hartsfield, will join the administration March 1. "Leonard Spearman Jr. has a distinguished professional and educational background," Clements said. "That background will serve Texas well." Spearman, 33, is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Leonard H.O. Spearman Sr., a former president of Texas Southern University in Houston. Spearman holds a law degree from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Florida at Gainesville. Before joining the Houston law firm as a legal assistant, Spearman worked for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Jacksonville, Fla., and for AT&T in Jacksonville and Houston, holding several managerial positions in their respective marketing departments. Spearman served on the National Advisory Council for Career Education under then-Secretary of Education T.H. Bell from 1981-82. -- 30 --
