OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. April 9, 1979 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Governor Bill Clements today designated Jean Houston Daniel of Austin to chair a special committee established by the Legislature to study restoration and renovation of the Governor's Mansion. The Governor also named Margot Perot of Dallas as a member of the study committee. A resolution passed by the Legislature created the six-member committee. Other members are Reps. Bob Davis of Irving and Pete Laney of Hale Center, appointed by House Speaker Bill Clayton; and Sens. Bill Braecklein of Dallas and Tom Creighton of Mineral Wells, appointed by Lt. Gov. Bill Hobby. Mrs. Daniel, wife of former Governor Price Daniel, is the author of a short history of the Texas Governor's Mansion and of a book on historic furnishings of the Mansion. With her husband, she compiled an illustrated book on executive mansions and capitols of America. She is a great-great granddaughter of General Sam Houston. Mrs. Perot, wife of Dallas industrialist Ross Perot, is a member of the Dallas Heritage Society. Dallas architect James L. Hendricks consulted with Governor and Mrs. Clements and state agency representatives Monday on the Mansion project. "I am delighted with the membership of this important committee," Governor Clements said. "Within two weeks, we hope to have the necessary cost estimates and a conceptual resume of the work before us.
