OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS JR. September 22, 1980 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today offered to debate President Carter "any time, any place, under any circumstances." Responding to a suggestion by three Democrats that he and other Republicans join them in a public debate on presidential campaign issues, the Governor stated: "I don't know any reason I ought to be debatino these guys. They can't even agree among themselves. Maybe they ought to aet together and debate among themselves and pick one who wants to debate me. I might consider such a proposition. I don't know. "But the one I really want to debate is Carter. Why should I debate some sergeant of his or some lieutenant of his. Let him come down here, and I'll debate him anytime, any place, under any circumstances--day or night, or high noon."
