Mark White is sitting on a $1.7 million campaign cushion while Republican former Gov. Bill Clements is staring at a $34,274 deficit as they warm up for their gubernatorial election battle this fall. But Clements' campaigners say they aren't worried, and White's campaign spokesman predicted that the ex-governor would outspend the Democratic incum- bent before it's all over. The two candidates submitted re- ports to the secretary of state for their campaign finance activities for April 24-May 28, which included the period leading up to the May 3 primaries that both won. But White's campaign press secre- tary, Mark McKinnon, predicted .that the multimillionaire will use his wealth to bolster his campaign. • "Mr. Clements is known for his :deep pockets, and there's no doubt !those pockets will be turned inside out before November," McKinnon said.
