MEMO To: George and Hilary From: Jim Neale /c) Date: Septemb 14, 1987 Re: Joey Herrera I received a phone call from Joey Herrera this afternoon about his situation with the Department of Health and Human Services. He informed me that there was an investigation by the department into his food stamp oualifing procedure of about $20,000.00 in over payments. The investigation findings will be submitted this week to Jim Harvey, who is the regional administrator for the El Paso area. Also, Terry Tremble the deputy commissioner of Health and Human Services will receive a copy of the findings as will commissioner Marlin Johnston. Joey indicated to me that the Department of Health would turn over their findings to the Attorney General's office who would in turn refer it to the County Attorney. Joey further added that he was to be terminated by the department at the end of the week by either resigning or being asked to resign. He said he really did not care about losing his job but the criminal procedures were bothering him. It is my opinion that all this food stamp over payment in Joey's case is true. But, it happened before the Governor asked Joey to help him and now he wants the Governor to bail him out since he worked for the Governor this past few months. 10 416 414;t4V APPL • Nb 011k 4441 Rfljb: tt 4bb"
