• WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. GOVERNOR • STATE OF TEXAS OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR AUSTIN, TEXAS 78701 Mrs. Irene Iribarren Lopez-Rubio Paseo Virgen Del Puerto, 65 Madrid, Spain, 28005 Dear Mrs. Iribarren: August 24, 1989 Please refer to your letter of August 1, 1989, advising me of the letter which you received from President Bush thanking you for the portrait of himself. I thought the portrait was excellent and when I presented it to him he was most enthusi- astic. I am delighted that he has written you in this regard. Attached is a photograph of President Bush receiving the portrait. This took place at a luncheon given in his honor at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. As a matter of interest the portrait was painted from a picture taken of the President while he was hunting near College Station which is a nice coincidence. The President liked the portrait very much as did everyone else. I thought you would like to have a photograph of the presentation. I note with interest your idea of making a collection of portraits and paintings regarding the different stages of Texas history from the Missions period to the present day of skyscrapers. This would certainly be an interesting endeavor but unfortunately I do not have the time to engage myself in this effort. Best wishes! Sincerely, William P. Clements, Jr. Governor WPC,Jr.:jh Attachment
