13 August 1974 The President The White House vashington, D. C., 20003 Dear Mr. President: I am writing in behalf o;CG-eorge BusliSfor your consideration to be Vice President. I have known George intimately for over 20 years, and in every respect he is the kind of person who would do credit to the Office of the Vice Presidency. He will properly support you in the enormous tasks which are ahead. George is a person of absolute integrity, high energy, attractive, articulate, of great moral character, and he has a marvelous family. He is a terrific blend of the best in the East and Texas. We, in Texas, consider George a complete "Texian." As I have heard you speak of the "glue" that the country needs to bind us together; cohesiveness and moving forward together to solve our problems; the great need to put salve on our wounds; etc., it is my judgment that George is the partner you need to help you move the country in these directions. He is your kind of guy! Lastly, but certainly not least, George in my opinion will make an enormous contribution to your winning team in 1976. Every good wish to you, and I assure you, you have my . complete support and loyalty. Respectfully yours, William P. Clements, Jr.
