March 12, 1981 The President The White House Washington, D. C., 20500 My dear Mr. President: I was most pleased to receive your letter of February 25, 1981, and it was a oreat occasion for me to have the opportunity to visit with you in the Oval Office. I hope you will find many occasions to wear your special beaver hat, and Rita and I are most grateful for the photographs of you and Nancy which were taken at Wexford. It was very thoughtful of you to do this for us. I am attaching a copy of Ernestine Adams' letter to me concerning. the Synfuel Program, and a copy of my response to her letter. She has been connected with petroleum industry publications for the last 35 years and she is very knowledgeable in this field. I felt that I could appropriately respond to her letter and at the same time outline to you my position with respect to synfuel as a follow-up to our discussion in your office. I anticipate furthering the synfuel issue with Secretary Edwards and OMB Director Stockman within the next few days. If you have a few minutes at that time I shall look forward to seeing you during my visit to Washington. You are doing great and I am extremely proud of the progress you are making. Hang in there! Best regards. Respectfully, William P. Clements, Jr. Governor WPC,Jr.:jh
