Letter from Martin J. Coyne, Jr. to William P. Clements, Jr., December 2, 1986. Letter from Martin J. Coyne, Jr., Director of Projects for the Office of the First Lady, regarding a letter William P. Clements, Jr. sent Nancy Reagan about an invitation to speak at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas. Coyne informs Clements that the First Lady cannot accept the invitation, but will keep the invitation from Dona Cassel on file.
THE WHITE HOUSE WAS HI NGTON December 2, 1986 Dear Mr. Clements: On behalf of Mrs. Reagan, thank you for writing to support the invitation from Dona Cassel of the Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Texas. Nothing would make the First Lady happier than to be able to respond favorably to the invitation. As you might imagine, however, she receives many such letters from all over the country each day and it is not always possible for her to accept as many as she would like. Although we are unable to accept Mrs. Cassel's invitation at this time, we will keep her letter on file in the event such an opportunity arises. The First Lady appreciates your interest in promoting her efforts in the fight against drug abuse. She joins me in sending our thanks and best wishes. Sincerely, .1••• Martin J. C yne, Jr. Director of Projects Office of the First Lady The Honorable William P. Clements, Jr. Governor-elect of Texas Cumberland Hill 1901 North Akard Street Dallas, TX 75201
