This KCEL editorial is not meant to criticise the governor of Texas. It is, rather, to praise him for being so forthright. Gcv. Clements, it seems to us, has not equivocated; he has laid it out just like it was and he has apologised. It is refreshing, isn't it? They say hindsite is 20/20. But how many people have you seen sitting in their own messes with the explanation: ell, it seemed like a good idea at the time. It is understandable that Gov. Clements and the SEU Board of ijovernors would instinctively want to fulfill their contracts with the football players. .e're convinced that the Governors are all honorable p.:ople; they live by their contracts, oral or written. 1,Nren bad contracts sometimes have to be lived up to, and we believe that was the situation with Gov. Clements and his Board. The acts per se were wrong, but by his candor we think Bill Clements has cleansed himself and we prayerfully hope public figures everywhere will emulate his style. 4,nd we think it can forever be said now without fear of contradiction: Gov.
