WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. GOVERNOR OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR STATE CAPITOL AUSTIN, TEXAS 78711 December 1, 1981 Mr. Steve Dial, Executive Director Texas District and County Attorney's Association 1210 Nueces, Suite 200 Austin, Texas 78701 Dear Mr. Dial: Governor Clements' Anti-Crime Package met with unprecedented success during the 67th Legislative Session. Through the unified efforts of prosecutors, sheriffs, police chiefs, and other concerned citizens, anti-crime legisla- tion heretofore believed to be unpassable was enacted into law. Governor Clements envisions a new Anti-Crime Package for the 1983 Legislative Session, a package that will again require the combined efforts of law enforcement officials and concerned citizens. An organizational meeting to begin development on the new package has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m., Friday, December 18, 1981, in the Governor's Office of General Counsel, Room 208, Sam Houston Building. During this meeting we will discuss strategy for developing the 1983 Anti-Crime Package and possible subjects for inclusion in it. In accordance with this, I hope that you, or your designee, can attend this meeting. I believe effective legislation designed to meet the needs and pro- vide for the safety of society will be developed. Sincerely, David Herndon General Counsel DH:drm
