TEACHER PAY RAISES UNDER CURRENT LAW Governor Briscoe's budget does not contain funds for teacher pay raises above those which are automatically provided through the Foundation Program. Approximately $125 million of his recommended budgetary increases are required for these automatic salary adjustments. The minimum salary schedule provides for salary increases of between 3.2% and 4.9% as teachers move from one step to the next. Teachers annually advance one step until they reach step 10 at which point they must spend two years at each step until the maximum 13th step is attained. School districts almost always pass along increases provided under this schedule to the teacher. Teachers who in 1979 have the number of years of experience indicated in the table below will receive only one automatic pay raise during the biennium. It is estimated that about 45 percent of the approximately 145,000 non-federal teachers in the state fall into this category. _ Teachers with a Bachelor's Degree Teachers with a Master's Degree No Salary No Salary Increase in 1980 If: Increase in 1981 If: 11,12,15,16,or 17 10,13,14,18 or more Years of Experience Years of Experience 13,14,17,18,19 or 9,10,11,12,16 or 25 or more Years of 20-24 Years of Experience Experience
