Governor of Texas GREETINGS: AUSTIN, TEXAS The State of Texas is aware of the efforts to combat alcohol abuse and alcoholism. Alcoholism is a progressive, fatal disease striking 10 million Americans. Fortunately, it is also a treatable disease. The United States Post Office has issued a sz..amr recognizing and publicizing this fact. This postage stamp is having an important impact in raising public awareness that alcoholism can be overcome. The United States Post Office is therefore to be co7mended, along with organizations which provide information and referral to sources of alcoholism treatment, including the National Council on Alcoholism, the Texas Commission on Alcoholism and local alcoholism councils such as the Denton Area Council on Alcoholis7. Also to be commended are the various health care organizations and surport grours working with the alcoholic.
