Governor of Texas GREETINGS: AUSTIN, TEXAS WHEREAS, ground was broken and the construction of the Nation's largest and most beautiful State Capitol Building commenced February 1, 1882, at Austin; and WHEREAS, the State Capitol Building, which is the symbol of Texas Government, will celebrate its first one hundred years on February 1, 1982; and WHEREAS, the effectiveness, strength and continuity of Texas Government over the past Century has made the State of Texas a respected, responsible and progressive leader among our Nation's state governments; and WHEREAS, in the State of Texas there are approximately 150,000 officers and employees dedicated to serving, preserving, and upholding the firm ideals and rrincirles of the Texas Government, and its Constitution; and WHEREAS, all officers and employees of the State should be recognized and honored for their invaluable contribution to the continuity, effectiveness and strength of Texas Government; and WHEREAS, it is proper that February 1, 1982, be dedicated and known as Texas Government Awareness Day to honor the predominate symbol of Texas Government, the State Capitol at Austin; and THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED, that all state officers and employees where practical be allowed to attend and participate in the 11 a.m. ceremony on February 1, 1982, at the State Capitol Building in Austin.
