Proposed Draft to Be Sent to CEOs of 50 Major Corporations in Texas Dear O. K." ifae A vital goal of this Administration is to enhance the economic climate for all types and sizes of businesses throughout our great state. I'm especially interested in encouraging minority business development in Texas as a means of strengthening our free enterprise system for all of our citizens. I am writing to ask your cooperation in a new effort to accomplish this objective -- a statewide entrepreneurship conference and minority business trade fair to be held in Austin in September of this year. Specifically, I would make two requestspf yov‘f cove.3:olevar.*., (1) that your corporation reserve a booth in the minority business trade fair segment of this conference, which is scheduled for September 15-16 at the Austin Municipal Auditorium (2) that you designate an executive who can serve as the contact person for your company and perhaps serve on a steering committee for the fair. This committee will be organized in the next thirty days, and may have three or four planning meetings in Austin. A recent survey of 265 minority-owned businesses around the state indicates that 60 percent of those small firms would like the opportunity to partici lt in a business trade fair, to meet potential corporate customers. ncouraged by this high degree of interest, and feel that such a fair will enable many new business relationships to be developed between major corporations and minority-owned businesses. In addition, the enterpreneurship conference will feature management seminars and meetings designed to foster profitable business growth and job creation. I believe that this is the type of private sector initiative you will want to be part of in Texas. I ask for your support and suggestions on this planned event. Within the next two weeks, please notify me or Allen B. Clark, Jr., in my office in writing regarding your interest and possible participation. I look forward to your positive response to this private sector undertaking. Sincerely, William P. Clements, Jr. Governor
