Clements, Jr. October 16, 1981 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today announced the appointment of Mrs. Polly Sowell of Austin as Special Assistant for Administration in the Governor's Office and Deputy Executive Assistant. "Polly Sowell is a person of proven talent and leadership ability, and I am highly pleased to appoint her to this senior position in the Governor's Office, Whatever she does, she does well, and I know she will continue to be a valuable asset to my staff," the Governor said. From May 1981 to the present, Mrs. Sowell served as Deputy Director of Personnel and Appointments for the Governor. From January 1979 to May 1981, she was Director of the Governor's Office of Volunteer Services, Mrs. Sowell was Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas from 1973 to 1978 and a member of the State Republican Executive Committee from 1962 to 1978. From 1972 to 1978 she served as United States Alternate Delegate to the Inter-American Commission of Women, a division of the Organization of American States.
