May 21, 1979 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today announced designation of Sam Waldrop as chairman of the State Highway and Public Transportation Commission. Waldrop, an Abilene furniture store owner, was named to the Commission last October 24 by then-Governor Dolph Briscoe. Governor Clements said his recent appointee to the Commission, Ray Barnhart of Pasadena, requested that he not be considered for the chairmanship in order to emphasize the non-political nature of the major highway and transportation policy-making body. Barnhart is former chairman of the State Republican Executive Committee. # ,
