WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS. JR GOV ER NOR STATE OF TEXAS OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR AUSTIN. TEXAS 78711 May 3, 1988 Dear Fellow Texans Concerned About Drugs: To join Parents and Youth Together for a Brighter Tomorrow is a fine expression of purpose. Your being here today shows your concern. Going out afterwards and taking the word to your neighbors who couldn't be here is important, too. There are still some who don't know, and I believe you will take the responsibility of telling them: Texas is at war against drugs. Only by our working together in earnest can we halt this menace in its tracks. We must stop it where it stands. It must advance no further. We must force it to retreat, and then to fade away entirely. That day cannot come too soon. Thank you for standing with me and with each other to face the threat that looms over us. As you know, through the Texas Narcotics Control Program we have already started what must be done. My program for improvements in our laws achieved a great measure of success during the most recent legislative session, and we are hard at work on our agenda for January. In the near future, I believe that you will see many changes for the better. The voluntary effort that has brought you together today stands as a testimony to what neighborly initiatives can do. Believing that this day marks only the first of many accomplishments to come, I hope you will let me know what this promising beginning brings forth. It is on behalf of every Texan that I thank you for enlisting in the war against drugs. No one can afford to stand aside. United, we shall prevail. Sincerely, William P. Clements, Jr. Governor WPC:kf/j
