Ted Roberts to the position of legislative director. Roberts had served as the governor's deputy legislative director. Roberts, 37, replaces Cliff Johnson, who was named by the governor to the Texas Water Commission. Before he joined the Governor's Office, Roberts was a member of the Texas House, representing Nueces and Aransas counties. He was elected to the House in 1984 and served two terms before joining the governor's staff. "Ted Roberts is well-liked and highly respected at the Capitol. I am delighted he has agreed to take on this crucial role," Governor Clements said. "His experience and commitment will be key to our legislative efforts in the coming months." Roberts, who assumes his new duties Oct. 23, said, "I am honored to accept this position on Governor Clements' staff. consider it a tremendous opportunity to be a part of work on issues that are critical to Texas' future." While in the House, Roberts was vice chairman of the Labor & Employment Relations Committee from 1987-88. He also was voted by his House colleagues as runner-up for Outstanding Freshman Legislator for the 69th Legislature in 1985. An attorney, Roberts was with the Corpus Christi firm of Meredith, Donnell & Abernethy. He also served as a briefing attorney for the 13th Court of Appeals in Corpus Christi from 1977- 1979.
