S • JUN 1 0 1981 OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS JR. June 10, 1981 For Immediate Release: Governor Bill Clements today announced he will call a special session of the Legislature to begin at noon, Monday, July 13. The Governor said the official call will be limited to these topics: .Repeal of the state ad valorem tax. .Creation of a Texas water trust fund. .Congressional redistricting. .Revision of the property tax code. .Consideration of the medical practice act. "I have discussed the timing of the session and the issues to be considered with Lt. Gov. Bill Hobby and House Speaker Bill Clayton, and we are in agreement," Governor Clements said. "The call will be limited to these subjects only. Since the first two topics will require constitutional amendments which we want to submit to voters on the November general election ballot, early and prompt attention to these matters will be necessary. "Hopefully, the legislative committees dealing with the agenda items for the session will begin meeting right away and initiate discussions on all of these issues so that solutions can be worked out in so far as possible prior to July 13. "I am giving more than a month's advance notice in order that members of the Legislature and others involved in the special session's work can have adequate time to plan their summer activities and in order that the committees can resolve some differences in advance."
