Either of you would be a marvelous Governor. Campaigns are the most tiring work in this world and, as a result, tempers many times get frayed and candidates attack other candidates. Regardless of personal attacks, I respectfully ask you, if Ray is the winner of the primary, to please come out and say openly, publicly and in every other way that you will support and ask your supporters to support the Republican nominee for Governor. This party cannot stand a division when we have people of the caliber of you and Ray running for Governor. More important, after the primary, with the help of the candidate receiving the least number of votes, we can win the Governor's race. I am sending a like letter to Ray, and I urge each of you, respectfully, to be gracious winners or gracious losers for the good of the party. I commend you for running for Governor and for your services to the Republican Party. I am taking the liberty of sending copies of this letter to others, some of whom have spoken to me because of their concern, with the hope that after the primary our party will be united in favor of our Gubernatorial candidate and that the marvelous workers of the losing candidate will work equally diligently for the winning candidate.
