illavernir EMI ) Campaign BLACK ISSUES Governor Clements Campaign 805 Brazos Austin, Texas 78701 512 472-1982 Over the past year it has been my experience to talk to the Black citizens across this state. I have always used this opportunity to explain to them what WPC has done and is doing for our community. Naturday, they are grateful for all WPC has done. But it has become very clear that of all the things that WPC has done or proposed to do there is one overriding issue that unites the Black community and that all Blacks can support. That overriding issue is Black colleges, both private and state. Of the 6 UNCF colleges each of the following has been volunteered: WILEY, whose president, Dr. Robert Hays has volunteered to serve as my Chairman in the black communities of Marshall, Texas. TEXAS COLLEGE, Ms. Willie B. Glass, the widower of the late President of that college has volunteered to serve as coordinator for the Tyler area and other parts of East Texas. PAUL QUINN, Bishop Henry Murph of P. Quinn has volunteered the names of over fifteen persons, mostly ministers which he has chosen to work for WPC. HUSTON-TILLOTSON, President John King has informed me that he will work for the re-election of WPC. He told me further, that he has told M. White that while he supported him ( M. White) for Attorney General, that because of WPC's efforts on behalf of Black colleges that he had to support WPC. BISHOP COLLEGE, In transition from Dr. Harry S. Wright, whom we had worked with in the past has left the college for a position in New York City. We are confident that Bishop Colleges' new administration will join us in the re-election campaign. JARVIS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, I expect to meet with the President of Jarvis, Dr. Berry, within the next ten days and outline his participation in the campaign. PRAIRIE VIEW, we have students and several faculty members who have asked to do whatever they can to re-relect WPC. TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY, is very much involved, at least 15 faculty members were involved in WPC's reception in Houston. The Presidents' wife, Ms. Leonard Spearman is on the Steering Committee for Harris County. Pol actv pad by The Governor Cements Commmee, Torn B Rhodes Treas :1 : •,. : •
