Clements, Jr. Deputy Secretary of Defense Room 3E 942 Pentagon Washington, D.C. 20301 Dear Bill: 637-1180 1 SEP(6 3 1 8 DEPUTY SECRETARY DEFENSE We are very pleased that you plan to attend the Annual Dinner on November 16. 'It would be great to arrange a fellowship hour for you to greet ;Scouting friends if your schedule would permit. I recognize that exigencies of your position could require a change in your schedule. We will hope that it does not occur. We had a good School Night. About 3,600 boys joined, plus 545 new leaders at 250 schools. Our camp season was another success. Counting Philmont and off- council camping, we had 56% of our Scouts in long term camp. We ranked first last year among the large councils in our region, with 55%. Our council was first in the nation in total attendance at Philmont. I will keep you posted on any significant action on the national issue. It appears that the committee will be considering addi- tional people during the next couple of months. I am thankful every week for your generous investments in leader- ship, trust fund and development of Clements Scout Reservation. It all continues to be a great source of strength and value for Scouting. Best regards, CA.SLe JLT:dr enc. 1)% .t ,,i0k11% U J. L. TARR Scout Executive 1:341'7 g73 fin PRFSII)ENT - John J.
