OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WILLIAM P. CLEMENTS, JR. January 2, 1981 For immediate release: Governor Bill Clements announced the appointment of Nelchor Chavez of Harlingen to be Judge of the 107th Judicial District Court of Texas, Willacy and Cameron counties, until the next general election and until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified. Chavez, 47, will fill a vacancy in the office created because of the inability of the Secretary of State to certify a winner fram the November 4, 1980 general election. Chavez had served as State Representative, District 51, since 1975. He is in private law practice. Chavez attended Texas Southmost Junior College and received bachelor's and law degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. He and his wife, Gloria, have two children.
