April 2, 1981 Ms. Patricia Kay Smith 707 El Dorado Boulevard, 11201 Houston, Texas 77062 Dear Ms. Smith: Thank you for your letter concerning the actions I have taken on parole cases. When a person commits a violent act against society, especially if the result is a loss of human life, great care must be taken before that person is released from prison. This is even more important where an individual has taken five lives. I intend to continue my active role in the parole process, and I will continue to veto the paroles of indi- viduals who have exhibited a calloused disregard for human life. A parole will only be issued if the release is in the best interests of all society. Again, thank you for your letter. Sincerely, Q.G.tet1J•4. William P. Clements, Jr. WPCJr:drm
