Tel. 214-745-1978 RELEASE Houston, April 3 -- Gubernatorial Candidate Bill Clements today released a statewide poll showing him with a better than two to one lead over his principal opponent among Republican voters. The poll revealed that if the primary election had been held last week, 48 per cent would have voted for Clements, 22 per cent for his chief opponent and 31 per cent were undecided. "This is proof that our campaign is gaining fast and building up for the general election in NovembEr," Clements told members of the Memorial West Republican Women's Club. He said the poll was taken by Lance Tarrance and Associates of Houston and results were made known to him this morning. Clements and his No. 1 opponent appeared jointly before the women's group.
